For Helios Towers, Sketch Films made a film that turns a complex infrastructure story into something human: how mobile money is transforming financial inclusion in the DRC.

We brought together the Managing Directors of Airtel DRC and Helios Towers DRC to show how a shared tower network underpins a financial revolution. Banking access has risen from around 6% to around 40% since mobile money arrived. Over 70% of Airtel’s equipment sits on Helios towers, and the network runs 24/7 so that people stay connected.

Alongside the execs, we followed Issa, a 23-year-old Kinshasa entrepreneur who uses Airtel Money to run his import-export business, receive family transfers and withdraw cash on his street corner.

Helios Towers is a leading independent telecoms infrastructure company, building, owning and operating mobile towers across Africa and the Middle East. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in London, it is listed on the London Stock Exchange.

The company operates more than 15,000 sites across nine markets, including Tanzania, Senegal, Malawi, Oman, the DRC, South Africa, Ghana and Madagascar. Each tower hosts multiple mobile network operators on a shared site, helping them extend coverage faster and at lower cost, and connecting more people sooner.

Helios Towers works in some of the most challenging environments in the world, from remote rural communities to dense cities. It invests in hybrid and solar power to keep sites running around the clock while cutting diesel use and emissions, and maintains rigorous health and safety standards for its field teams.
